Workforce/operations: Purdy is a paint brush and roller manufacturing operation providing hand-crafted paint brushes worldwide. It employs more than 300 people. Responsibilities/hazards addressed: I see my responsibilities as ensuring the safety and well-being of the environment and people. In any manufacturing facility, there are a number of hazards that can maim or kill quickly, so machine guarding, lockout/tagout, employee engagement, and risk awareness and reporting are key to protecting people from harm. I am one person in a 24-hour-a-day operation with 300 employees. I alone cannot keep people safe. My greatest responsibility is to provide the tools everyone needs to protect themselves, and those they work with daily, from injury. The biggest hazard I face is to think that I can keep people safe.
