Everyday Ergonomics online course

This online course is designed to provide an understanding of the basic principles of proper ergonomics in the workplace and while working at home. We start by explaining the dangers of musculoskeletal disorders and the purpose of ergonomics. We provide 3D animated representations of human anatomy and explain how ergonomic risk factors (ERF) affect our bodies. In the final module, we offer a certificate of completion after passing a short quiz, as well as offer links to additional resources including Oregon OSHA consultation.

Module content

​This module starts with a discussion of the concept and purpose of ergonomics, then delves into musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and accompanying symptoms.​​

​This module covers risk factors, both individual and ergonomic. It breaks down this topic into categories such as: psychosocial factors, awkward and prolonged positions, contact stress, repetitive motions, and excessive use of force. We close with a tutorial video explaining how to achieve a neutral posture.​​

​In this module, we’ll discuss workstation ergonomics, specifically computer workstations. We’ll begin by explaining a neutral working posture and how it’s beneficial through a series of helpful videos. From there, we’ll jump into different types of workstations, chairs, computer monitors, laptops, and mobile devices.

​​This module starts with a plan to develop your own ergonomics program, equipping you with resources such as the NIOSH 7-step process. The course concludes with a quiz, certificate of completion, additional resources, and an optional survey to provide feedback.​​
