Job Hazard Analysis online course

This online course will help employees, employers, safety committee members, and management to understand their role in the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) process and how to develop pre-work plans. You will learn how to determine which jobs need a JHA; write an effective safe job procedure, and use the JHA to improve safety programs. Conducting JHAs is required for all companies intending to achieve Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) certification.

Module content

​This module starts with an explanation of a what a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) entails and how it’s performed. It also covers who should conduct a JHA and the difference between a JHA and a pre-work plan.​​​​

 Start​ module​​​​​​​

​​​​This module covers when and why a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) should be performed, how to create a JHA worksheet, timing factors to consider, and analyzing risk factors. This section concludes with a discussion of how to review records such as: safety committee minutes, OSHA 300 logs, SDS, PPE hazard assessments, equipment manuals, and incident reports.

This module provides a detailed list of common workplace hazards and how to control them. This includes: fall hazards, impacts, mechanical hazards, heat and temperature hazards, flammable materials, explosives, high/low pressure hazards, electrical hazards, ergonomic hazards, environmental hazards, biohazards, toxins, and vibration/noise hazards.​​​​

This final module covers a step-by-step process to create a hazard assessment along with instructions on how to properly maintain your Job Hazard Analysis. It also includes a quiz, a certificate of completion, and a survey where you will have the option to provide your input on the course.​​​​
