Overview

Lasers are used in many workplaces, including manufacturing, lumber, construction, and health care. However, they present unique hazards, which can come from the beam itself – such as burns to the eyes or skin – or from the equipment that generates the beam, such as electrical hazards. When workers use or are exposed to Class IIIB or Class IV lasers, Oregon OSHA expects the employer to have a laser safety officer.
