Seed to Shatter: A safety and health guide for cannabis growers, processors, and retailers

Welcome to Oregon OSHA's safety and health guide for cannabis growers, processors, and retailers. This guide is intended to help employers and employees identify hazards associated with their work and determine how to control them.

The guide also helps employers determine which Oregon OSHA rules apply to their businesses and highlights seven “core" requirements that apply to all employers.

Do Oregon OSHA’s rules apply to your business?

Yes

Oregon OSHA’s rules apply to your business if you have one or more employees or you are a sole proprietor or a member of a partnership that has workers’ compensation coverage.

No

Independent contractors, sole proprietors, and partnerships that have no workers’ compensation coverage and no employees.

Corporations that have an owner as the sole employee and do not have workers’ compensation coverage.

Corporate family farms that employ only family members.

Which Oregon OSHA rules apply to your business?

All cannabis processors and retailers are covered by Oregon OSHA’s Division 1, General Administrative Rules.

Most cannabis processors and retailers are covered by Oregon OSHA’s Division 2, General Occupational Safety and Health Rules.

Most cannabis growers (indoor, outdoor, and greenhouse) are covered by Oregon OSHA’s Division 4, Agriculture Rules.
