Worker protection standard

Topic index

Overview

The Worker Protection Standard was written by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to reduce the risk of pesticide poisoning among agricultural workers and pesticide handlers.

Oregon OSHA enforces the Worker Protection Standard as it was adopted in 437-004-6000. The standard applies when a pesticide with the words “Agricultural Use Requirements” on the product label is used on plants grown or sold at outlets such as retail nurseries or greenhouses.

The standard covers agricultural workers (people involved in the production of agricultural plants) and pesticide handlers (people who mix, load, or apply crop pesticides) who work on farms and in forests, nurseries, and greenhouses.
