Extension cords

Topic index

Overview

The most important thing to remember about extension cords is that they are made for temporary use. Never use them for permanent wiring. Extension cords are also known as cord sets and – as everyone should know – have a male "attachment plug" at one end for plugging into a receptacle, and a female cord connector at the other end. Also, remember to inspect extension cords for loose parts, deformed and missing pins, or damage to outer jacket or insulation, and for evidence of possible internal damage (such as a pinched or crushed outer jacket).
